The Society’s 11th Annual Conference and Workshops are coming in March. The theme for 2019 is “Thinking About the Width and Breadth of Benefit-Cost Analysis.”  The Program Committee welcomes submissions on all topics, and encourages proposals for panels, roundtables, and presentations on Communicating Benefit-Cost Analysis, Teaching Benefit-Cost Analysis, and Benefits and Costs Beyond the Beltway.

Call For Submissions Deadline

The Society for Benefit-Cost Analysis (SBCA) is now accepting abstracts and workshop proposals for participation in the 2019 annual conference (March 14-15, 2019). Abstracts and proposals are due October 26, 2018. 

The SBCA is an international group of practitioners, academics and others who are working to improve the theory and application of the tools of benefit cost analysis (BCA). The Society welcomes submissions that support the enhanced use of such analysis to promote evidence-based decision making. SBCA defines BCA broadly, including cost analysis, cost effectiveness analysis, risk-benefit analysis, applied welfare economics, damage assessment and other methods. Applications in any public policy area are encouraged. For example, proposals may be in such areas as:

 ·         Civil and criminal justice
 ·         Education and training
 ·         Energy, natural resources, and environment
 ·         Finance and financial markets
 ·         Food and agriculture
 ·         Health, health insurance, and health care
 ·         International trade and development
 ·         Safety and security
 ·         Social welfare programs
 ·         State and local policy
 ·         Teaching Benefit-Cost Analysis
 ·         Theory and methods
 ·         Transportation and infrastructure
 ·         Workforce and workplace

On Balance: Executive Order 12866 and the Durability of Core Regulatory Principles

 On September 24, 2018, experts gathered at the George Washington University (GW) to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Executive Order (E.O.) 12866Regulatory Planning and Review—and discuss the implications of its provisions and future prospects. The Society for Benefit-Cost Analysis (SBCA) cosponsored the event with the GW Regulatory Studies CenterABA Section of Administrative Law and Regulatory Practice, and the Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration. 2018 JBCA Editor Search

The SBCA is seeking a new editor or team of co-editors for its flagship journal, the Journal of Benefit-Cost Analysis (JBCA), to serve a three-year renewable term beginning in January 2019. For details on the Call for Proposals, please visit the editor search page. Applications are due on October 15, 2018.

Application Process
An application should include the following items:

1.  Curriculum vita for the proposed editor and any proposed co-editor or associate editors.
2.  A short statement (1 – 2 pages) reviewing the qualifications of the proposed editor(s) and indicating their motivation for becoming JBCA editor. 
3.  A short statement (1 – 2 pages) of editorial goals and philosophy, as well as plans for serving journal audiences.
4.  A letter of support from the applicant’s home institution, noting institutional contributions in terms of faculty release time, graduate or undergraduate student assistance, office staff personnel, and editorial team office space, among other contributions.
